Located in Mapplewell, Barnsley, the Wendy Charles School of Dance has been dedicated to cultivating a passion for movement, rhythm, and performance for decades. Whether our students join us simply for a fun hobby, to improve their fitness levels, or with a dream of becoming a professional dancer, we are here to support and enable them to unleash their abilities and talents.
We aim to develop the enjoyment of dance through fun and making new friends, whilst gaining confidence, poise, and technique throughout their training. We cater for all ages from toddlers starting at 2.5 years old all the way through to adult classes.
Safety and quality instruction are at the heart of everything we do: all of our teachers are CRB checked, and we offer professional training pathways up to major levels in all IDTA subjects.
Founded in 1983 by principal Wendy Charles (Miss Wendy), the school has spent over four decades building an exceptional reputation in Mapplewell, Barnsley. Having been passionately involved in dance from childhood—performing professionally before establishing her school—Miss Wendy has guided countless students over the last 12+ years and beyond, helping them build lifelong confidence, win awards, and transition into university dance degrees and professional careers.

Pupils can take IDTA exams to achieve rosettes through to accredited graded exams. Exams are never compulsory—pupils are encouraged as they feel ready, backed by our proud 100% pass rate.
Our pupils have won numerous awards at competitions. Beyond competitive success, our focus remains on building lifelong confidence, physical core strength, posture, and coordination.
